ELECTION DAY: NOVEMBER 3RD

MEET HUNTER SADLER.

Born to a working-class Little Rock family, Hunter's parents instilled in him a strong commitment to community involvement and public service from a young age. This culminated in him joining the Arkansas Army National Guard while in graduate school at Arkansas State University in 2016. Hunter is currently a Captain in the Logistics branch and has served as a Company Commander, both at home and overseas. In 2023-2024, he joined a contingent from Arkansas that manned the Joint Multinational Training Group – Ukraine, which has been tasked with training Ukrainian soldiers to defend their country against Russian aggression since the 2022 invasion.

Also in keeping with a life dedicated to service, Hunter works as the Director of Constituent Services for Rep. French Hill, whose district includes all of West Little Rock. This experience helped him develop a critical understanding of the issues facing Arkansans and now shapes his platform. If elected, Hunter will focus on helping hard-working families by continuing to lower burdensome taxes, cutting regulations and red tape that prevents economic growth, and ensuring that law enforcement and corrections have the support they need to combat crime in the modern era.

Hunter earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and his master’s degree in public administration from Arkansas State University. He has been married to his wife, Megan, since 2021, and they recently welcomed their baby daughter, Elizabeth, into the world.

POLICY

Affordability/Cost of Living

1. The most glaring examples of the affordability crisis are the skyrocketing cost of buying and owning a home and large increases in rent. Much of this is due to high insurance costs and property taxes, which are increasingly putting homeownership out of reach. In addition, high inflation is pushing many young professionals out of the homebuying market.
   
   
2. The quickest way at the state level to fix the housing supply issue is to reduce regulatory burdens and licensing requirements. The ROAD to the 21st Century Housing Act removed many barriers at the federal level, but Arkansas still has regulations that are much more stringent and prevent the law's benefits from reaching our citizens. If elected, Hunter will immediately propose legislation to align Arkansas' housing laws with the ROAD to the 21st Century Housing Act.
   
   
3. Property tax reform is essential. Hunter's solutions include shifting the financing for education out of property taxes and into the general fund, exempting property owners who are 65 or older or have disabilities from paying property taxes or freezing their payments at a low rate, and allowing senior property owners to maintain their frozen property tax rates if they are forced to move into a smaller home.

Education

1. Hunter believes that Arkansas' education system uses faulty and outdated metrics to gauge success (see Goodhart's Law, "When any measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure."). As such, if elected, he will seek to shift the focus of K-12 educators to two questions: First, can the child read at grade level by the time they are preparing to graduate? Second, do they have the skills needed to build productive lives upon graduation? Hunter says that while reading scores and workforce training options for non-college bound students are improving, more progress needs to be made, though this can be accomplished through greater enforcement rather than new legislation.
   
   
2. Hunter says that Arkansas must consider a policy to spend additional money on pre-third grade reading intervention and hold students back after third grade if they haven't met certain literacy benchmarks. This is because fourth grade sees a change from learn-to-read to read-to-learn, after which unprepared students will quickly fall behind.
   
   
3. Hunter says that because most K-12 students won't end up attending college, Arkansas' public schools need to shift their focus from preparing students for a degree toward promoting workforce development and exposing them to entrepreneurship opportunities. These will better prepare students for success in their future careers.

Social Issues

1. Ashley Hudson is on the wrong side of the girls'/women's sports issue, as she voted against legislation to prevent biological males from competing in female K-12/AAA athletics. Since this is a 70-30 or 80-20 issue, she is even at odds with many of her fellow Democrats.
   
   
2. Ashley Hudson voted against a bill that required age verification for people to access "adult" websites. The measure became law, but if Hudson had gotten her way, young children and teenagers would have retained unfettered access to pornography.
   
   
3. In order to drum up more business for trial lawyers, Ashley Hudson fought against the presumption of shared parenting in divorce proceedings. If she had gotten her way, this would have meant many children not having contact with their fathers, which studies show is extremely detrimental to their development.
